What is the Pyramid of Giz ?

Today we are gonna investigate a historical structure. The Great Pyramid of Giz. Before you ask, It wasn’t made by aliens (probably). Also before we start, I want to thank my friend for advising me this topic. Thank you! Let's begin.

First of all, Great Pyramid of Giza has several names like Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops. Egyptologists think that “the pyramid was built as a tomb for the Fourth Dynasty Egyptian pharaoh Khufu (Name can be Hellenized as Cheops)“. Pyramid of Khufu was built for religious purposes as accompany the rulers of Egypt in afterlife and filled with all the things they may need there.

The Pyramid constructed on the west bank of the Nile River nearly 4500 years ago, it took 20 years to finish and required the work of 100.000 man (including slaves and qualified workers). According to a theory, those men divided to 5 group that includes 20.000 men each and every group may have been divided again according to the skills of the workers. It is the biggest part of a complex that includes mortuary temples and little pyramids which belongs to Khufu's wives. Additionally, Pyramid of Cheops is the oldest and only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World which could stand mostly solid.

Also, until the Lincoln Cathedral (1311 AD), it was the tallest man made structure for 3800 years with its 138m length (The original length was 146m but it decreased by time). The Great Pyramid made from nearly 2.3 million limestone blocks but there are several different theories that explains construction. Firstly, the most trustable theory says that limestone blocks transported from nearby quarries. Secondly, some say the blocks produced at the construction site but that is not a reliable theory for most of the scientist. Also, every block weights averagely 2.5 tons. Therefore, there are some theories that explains how did they lift those blocks up. For example, some says that the blocks weren’t moved from somewhere, but the workers poured the frozen stone mixture into the molds at the target layer. On the contrary, French architect Jean Pierre Houdin stated that workers carried stones all the way to the top with several internal spiral ramps (explanation with a video).

There are mainly 3 different part of the Great Pyramid of Giz. Queen’s Chamber, Grand Gallery, King’s Chamber along the tunnels and small subterranean burial chambers . You can travel those parts with this 360° video by BBC. Contrary to general belief, “there are no hieroglyphic texts, treasures, or mummies in any of pyramids of Giza.”. Additionally, scientist states that if there was a treasure inside the pyramid, it was already stolen.

Lastly, if you want to visit the Pyramid some day here are some tips for you. Have a nice trip!
